The Ruins of San Ignacio, which form an important historical site of the area, are located at 240 kilometers from Puerto Iguazu. The site was originally a Jesuit Mission founded in 1610.  At its peak, the Mission included more than 3300 inhabitants, and its strategic position next to the Parana river allowed them to keep a constant exchange with neighboring populations.
